Creating well-organised product categories is essential for managing your Ooooby hub effectively. Categories help customers easily find the products they're looking for by grouping similar items together, such as vegetables, dairy, bakery items, and more. Here's how you can create and manage product categories to enhance the shopping experience on your site.

Understanding Categories

Categories organize products into logical groups within your website, making it easier for customers to browse and shop. They are a level below groups in the hierarchy, allowing for more specific classification of products.

When to Create a Category

  • Product Similarity: Group together products that are similar in nature (e.g., all types of vegetables in a "Vegetables" category).

  • Product Quantity: Aim for at least 5 products in a category to justify its creation. For example, a "Bakery" category for various baked goods. If there are fewer items, consider grouping them into a broader category like "Larder" along with other related items.

Steps to Create Categories

1. Access Product Category Management

  • Navigate: In the Crew Dashboard, go to Products -> Product Category Management.

  • Select: Click on Add Category to start creating a new product category.

2. Entering Category Details

  • Name: Enter the name of the category you're creating (e.g., Bakery, Dairy, Fruit, Vegetables). This name should reflect the type of products it will contain.

  • URL Name: This field will automatically fill based on the category name you provide, helping to structure your website's URLs logically.

  • Category Group: From the dropdown menu, select the group you want this category to belong to. This ensures the category is correctly classified within the larger organizational structure of your site.

  • Save: After filling in the details, click Save to add the category to your site.

Example Categories

Here are some examples of categories you might create, depending on the range of products your hub offers:

  • Bakery: For all types of baked goods like bread, pastries, and cakes.

  • Dairy: For milk, cheese, yoghurt, and other dairy products.

  • Fruit: A category dedicated to all types of fresh fruits.

  • Vegetables: For all varieties of vegetables.

Creating thoughtfully organized categories not only improves the aesthetic of your hub's website but also significantly enhances the customer's shopping experience. By following these steps, you can ensure your products are easily navigable and that customers can find exactly what they're looking for with minimal effort.
