By creating product categories and sub-categories, you can create an online shop that makes it easy for your customers to find the products they want. Here's a straightforward guide to creating and managing categories and sub-categories.

Examples of how to use Categories and Sub-Categories

For arranging products:

  • Category = Beverages

    Sub-Category = Juice & Drinks

    Sub-Category = Tea & Coffee

Above is an example of how to use Categories and Sub-Categories to arrange your products, making it easier for your customers to find what they're looking for. In this case, 'Beverages' is the Category and 'Juice & Drinks' is the Sub-Category.

For informing your customers:

  • Category = Donations

  • Sub-Category (e.g. Information text) = 'Help us grow good things together'

Above is an example of how to use Categories and Sub-Categories to inform your customers. In this case, 'donations' is the Category and 'help us grow together' is the Sub-Category.

Why Create Categories and Sub-Categories?

  • Arrange the order of your products: When adding a Category you can choose what order the categories are displayed on your shop page by numbering the categories

  • Improved Navigation: Helps customers find products more easily by organising items into logical order

  • Promotional Opportunities: Specials or featured items can be highlighted.

Steps to Create Categories

1. Accessing Manage Categories

  • Navigate: In the Admin Dashboard, go to Products -> Categories -> Manage Categories.

  • Select: Choose Add Category to create a new category.

2. Filling in Category Details

  • Name: Enter the name of the category (e.g. Bakery, Dairy etc.). The order number will dictate this category's display order on the website.

  • URL Name: This field will automatically fill based on the category name you enter.

  • Order: Assign a numerical order to your category. This determines the sequence in which the categories will appear on your website.

  • After entering the details, click Save to create the category.

Steps to Create Sub-Categories

1. Access Product Sub-Category Management

  • In the Crew Dashboard, go to Products -> Categories.

  • Click on Add Sub-Category to start creating a new product sub-category.

2. Entering Sub-Category Details

  • Name: Enter the name of the sub-category you're creating (e.g. Bakery, Dairy, Fruit, Vegetables). This name should reflect the type of products it will contain.

  • URL Name: This field will automatically fill based on the sub-category name you provide, helping to structure your website's URLs logically.

  • Assigning a Category: From the dropdown menu, select the category you want this sub-category to belong to. This ensures the sub-category is correctly classified within the larger organisational structure of your site.

  • After filling in the details, click Save to add the sub-category to your site.

Conclusion

By following these steps, you can effectively organise your products into categories and sub-categories, making your Ooooby shop’s website more navigable and user-friendly, thus enhancing the overall shopping experience for your customers.
